Blue Ridge Harmeneers' Scholarship Program
Each year around February 14th, quartets composed of Harmeneer members sing sweet love songs and deliver songs and a flower to lovers, young and old, throughout Lynchburg, Rocky Mount, Bedford, and Moneta. With the money raised from the "Singing Valentines", the Harmeneers fund our college scholarship program for graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated an interest in music.
The Harmeneers' "Youth-in-Harmony Vocal Scholarship" began in 1999 with a single $500 scholarship given to a senior from Franklin County High School who then attended VA Tech. In 2000, the Harmeneers expanded the program to include two scholarships, and then in 2002 it was yet again expanded to three awards. Since 2006, the Harmeneers award five scholarships annually in the amount of $750 to the following High Schools: Franklin County, Heritage, Staunton River, E.C. Glass, and Brookville.
Since the humble beginnings of our scholarship program, the Harmeneers have awarded more than $40,000 in college scholarships to more than 60 area graduating High School seniors, who have attended 28 different Colleges and Universities.
